Certified by the European Union's COSMOS
Established by an independent, non-profit association in the EU, COSMOS is a set of standards for sustainable and environmentally-friendly cosmetics. It is currently the most influential and globally recognized certification for organic and natural cosmetics.
COSMOS has strict standards for production processes and products.
Ingredients and packaging: must be non-GMO, recyclable and biodegradable.
Manufacturing practices: must respect the Principles of Green Chemistry*.
Manufacturing factories: must comply with hygienic standards.
Storage and transport: every step of the manufacturing process must be examined for its impact on the environment.
Inspection and control: Certified products are reviewed annually to ensure ongoing compliance with COSMOS requirements.
Palm oils: Ingredients that contain palm oils must be CSPO-certified for sustainability.
*Principles of Green Chemistry:
The manufacturing process must minimize and recycle waste.
The ingredients used throughout manufacturing must be health-friendly and environmentally friendly.
Verified by the Environmental Working Group (EWG)
EWG is an independent American non-profit organization dedicated to protecting human health and the environment. In 2004, EWG launched Skin Deep®, a comprehensive ratings system of potential health hazards and toxicity levels in personal care products and ingredients.
EWG Verified™ is the organization’s visible symbol allowing consumers to easily identify products that meet EWG’s strictest criteria for transparency and health.
To be EWG Verified™ products must achieve the following:
Exclude any ingredients on EWG’s “Unacceptable” list, meaning ingredients with health, ecotoxicity and/or contamination concerns.
Meet EWG’s rigorous standards for fully transparent ingredient labelling.
Develop and follow best practices for safe manufacturing.
